A very elegant and well made Colonial Empire Silver Plate dish with folding handle. In a simple design with an open cutwork design. Dating from around 1880.

Marked P.ORR & SONS LTD MADRAS & RANGOON EMPIRE PLATE

This would be suitable for fruit, nuts or as a Bon Bon dish.

The renowned Scottish watchmaker Peter Orr established his shop in Madras in 1849, and began working with local Indian silversmiths. In 1863, his shop began hallmarking silver “P. Orr & Sons.”

Good condition, with some minor tarnish marks as seen in the photos

Approximate Measurements: 7½” high including handle, and 8¼” wide.
